Making a Horton hears a who pinata.

I purchased large, 32″ balloons from michaels. I have made the body (belly) of the elephant, there’s 3 layers on it so far. I have never made a pinata before and now I’m trying to figure out how to attach a head. Do I use another balloon and make mache stitching to attach it to the body? Or…. any helpful tips would be appreciated.
The game plan:
The hang hook will be in the body.
I have to attach ears and a trunk to the head and am worried about the weight holding onto the body through the beat up.

The best way to attach two papier mâché spheres is to cut a round hole in one of them that you can rest the other one in.  Then tape the second one in place, and cement over the joint with a few layers of papier mâché.  You can see how I did this when I made the skull for the Pirates of the Caribbean piñata.  If you need a little more of a “neck” where the spheres meet or if you want to reinforce the neck to help support the weight of the head, you can wrap a wide strip of thin cardboard around the shoulder/head joint, and again make sure it’s firmly cemented in place with papier mâché.

Good luck!
