Columbia the Mermaid

IMG_6705

Thanks to this page I learned how to make a pinata myself, thanks a lot !
I started with a fish for my son’s 4th birthday, then several others.
This one was the latest and hardest so far, a mermaid for my friend’s 40th birthday.
I used glue this time, because I feared she might not want to smash it right away – indeed after one year she is still alive.
I found out that water and flour is much better to handle and it seems to dry much faster also.
For the face I used that paper mache powder to mix with water that you can mold afterwards.
I used a very stable loop for this one,

After it was finished my son baptized her Columbia, since she looks a bit…don’t know, robust ? 🙂

Great job — I can see why your friend didn’t want to smash her. And I guess this just goes to show you’re never too old for a mermaid piñata!
