Should I use yarn?
Answer from Piñata Boy
There’s not just one right answer to this, and the best choice will depend on the size and weight of the piñata. I wouldn’t use yarn to hang any piñata, though, because it breaks too easily. You want something that can withstand the weight of the filled piñata plus the added force of the whacking.
I normally build a metal hanging hook right into the piñata and then hang the piñata using a rope tied to a carabiner. Any thin rope (not twine) will work, whether cotton or nylon or polypropylene. (I don’t like twine because it frays too easily.) I don’t use use clothesline rope anymore, though — it seems like that would be the perfect thin but strong lightweight rope for hanging a piñata, but for some reason it always seems to kink up on me the first time I use it. You can see the kind of ropes I like to use in the dolphin piñata photo.
Good luck!
